New Sponsored Parent Temporary Visa (Subclass 870)

Due to the high volume of applications for Australian parent visas and extremely long processing times (upto 30 years in most cases), the government has introduced a new Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa ( Subclass 870), which allows parents of Australian Permanent Residents and Citizens to come to Australia and live with them, from between 3-5 years, with the opportunity to renew the visa for a combined maximum of 10 years.

Each year, 15,000 places will be accepted through this visa stream. The cost of the visa processing is $5,000 for 3 years and $10,000 for 5 years.

The lodgement of the 870 visa will be in two stages:

Stage 1 – Sponsor approval: The Sponsor/s of the applicant would need to submit documents to get approval as a legitimate sponsor. A sponsor must demonstrate that they have a minimum household taxable income of $83,455 and should have no outstanding debts to the Australian Government.
*Sponsors are only allowed to sponsor two parents at a time.

Stage 2 – Application lodgement: Once approval is received, the visa application can be lodged. The application can be lodged online, by creating an online immi account.
*The application must be lodged within 6 months of receiving the sponsorship approval.

*The processing times for this visa are not yet available.
