Australian Government Introduces Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)

On 3 December 2024, the Australian Government unveiled the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), marking a significant shift in the country’s temporary skilled visa program.

The CSOL consolidates 456 occupations into a streamlined list informed by labour market analysis and Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) consultations. This move replaces outdated and inflexible occupation lists, aligning with the Government’s reform agenda.

Key applications of the CSOL include:

• The Core Skills stream of the new Skills in Demand visa replaces the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa from 7 December 2024.
• Direct Entry stream of the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa.
