IRCC Announced Regulating the Study Permits and Introduced Changes to PGWP Eligibility
- IRCC will issue 437,000 study permits in 2025 which signifies the 10% reduction from the 2024 targets of 485,000 new study permits and stabilizing the intake cap for 2026.
- The Masters and PhD level students will now be required to submit the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL).
- The candidates who want to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after 1st November require a CLB 7 for university graduates and a CLB 5 for college graduates.
- IRCC announced to limit the work permit eligibility to spouses of master’s degree students whose program is at least 16 months duration. Moreover, SOWP will be limited to the spouses of Permanent residents who are employed in the critical work sectors.
- The cost of living requirements for the study permit applicants on 1st January was updated for the betterment to the light on the correct cost of living in Canada.
