Manitoba to End Temporary Public Policy for PNP Work Permits

Publish Date: 15/12/2024

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) announced on December 6 that it will stop accepting applications under the "Temporary Public Policy for Work Permits Aimed at Prospective PNP Candidates" later this month.

Policy Overview

Introduced in August 2024, this temporary policy enables provincial authorities to issue support letters to PNP candidates currently in the Expression of Interest (EOI) pool or application inventory. With these letters, eligible candidates can apply to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for an open work permit (OWP) to maintain their work status in Canada while awaiting the outcome of their PNP applications.

Important Deadlines

  • The MPNP will accept applications for support letters until 11:59 PM CST on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 (12:59 AM EST on Thursday, December 19).
  • After this deadline, the online submission form will close, and no new applications will be accepted.
  • Eligible individuals are encouraged to submit their requests through the online form before the cut-off date.
  • The IRCC will continue to accept OWP applications under this policy until December 31, 2024.

This marks the conclusion of a transitional measure designed to assist PNP candidates in maintaining work eligibility while navigating the immigration process.
