Immigration New Zealand Raises Work Visa Wage Thresholds Amidst Growing Demand for Skilled Workers

INZ is raising wage thresholds for most work visas starting February 28th reflecting the latest median wage increase, indicating growing demand for skilled individuals.

Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) remains at its current wage threshold despite the general increase for other visas. AEWV remains at NZD$29.66 per hour, exempt from the general increase.

Affected Visas:

  • Skilled Migrant Category
  • Green List Straight to Residence
  • Work to Residence visas
  • Parent Category residence class visa.

Applicants must now earn at least NZD$31.61 per hour for eligibility.

Some industries have sector agreements allowing payment below the median wage for AEWVs.

  1. Tourism and hospitality minimum wage increasing incrementally, currently at NZD$28.18 per hour.
  2. The transport sector has separate agreements (e.g., bus drivers require at least NZD$28 per hour).
  3. The care workforce sector has a minimum wage for a Care Workforce Work to Residence Visa set at NZD$28.25 per hour.
