The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is set to introduce a new pathway for law enforcement professionals, accepting applications later this year, although the exact date is yet to be announced.
As one of Canada's 11 Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), the AAIP's new pathway aims to support Alberta's police services by achieving two main objectives: enhancing recruitment for public protection and addressing crime across the province.
This initiative responds to a notable decline in the number of Albertans entering policing careers, with the new PNP stream designed to bolster the ranks of Alberta Police Services.
In 2024, the AAIP law enforcement pathway will offer 50 nominations for PNP candidates. This stream is aligned with Express Entry, requiring interested candidates to meet all necessary Express Entry criteria to qualify for permanent residence (PR).
Announced on June 25 by the Government of Alberta, the pathway's eligibility requirements include holding a job offer from an employer affiliated with the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP) and fulfilling all other Express Entry criteria.
Eligible occupations for this pathway encompass commissioned and non-commissioned police officers, related public protection service roles, police investigators, and specialized law enforcement positions.
