Publish Date: 26/03/2025

March 26, 2025The Australian government has announced an increase in income thresholds for skilled visa applicants, effective July 1, 2025. The changes will impact various employer-sponsored visa categories, requiring businesses to offer higher salaries to skilled migrants.

Key Changes

  • The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) will rise from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515, affecting nomination applications for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186).
  • The Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) will increase from AUD 135,000 to AUD 141,210, impacting the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482).
  • The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), applicable to the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494) and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187), will also increase from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515.

Why the Increase?

The adjustments align with annual wage growth in Australia, ensuring that skilled migrants receive fair wages comparable to Australian workers. The government aims to prevent underpayment and protect local job opportunities.

New applicants from July 1, 2025, must meet the revised salary thresholds.
Existing visa holders and those who submit applications before July 1, 2025, will not be affected.
