International Students in Canada Can Now Work 24 Hours Per Week Off-Campus

Publish Date: 15/11/2024

As confirmed by Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), international students in Canada are now allowed to work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions.

The new regulation took effect on November 15, marking a significant increase from the previous limit of 20 hours per week.

The announcement follows an earlier statement in April 2024, where Minister Miller revealed plans to extend work-hour limits in the fall but did not specify an implementation date until now.

This policy adjustment is expected to offer more flexibility to international students in balancing their academic and financial responsibilities while contributing to Canada’s workforce.
