Express Entry candidates seeking Canadian permanent residency will soon no longer receive additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) for having a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-based job offer.
Previously, candidates could gain an extra 50 or 200 CRS points for such offers, which often made a significant difference in securing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. A mere 50 points could be the deciding factor between receiving an ITA or missing out.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced the update on Tuesday, December 17, during a televised interview. However, the exact implementation date for this change remains unclear.
As of December 18, the government’s official CRS calculator continues to award 50 points for a valid LMIA-based job offer.
This development marks a significant shift in Canada’s immigration landscape, potentially impacting thousands of candidates. Stay tuned for further updates as the new policy unfolds.
