According to an announcement by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on November 15, international students in Canada must now apply for a new study permit before changing designated learning institutions (DLIs).
Previously, students could switch schools under the same study permit by simply updating their information in their IRCC online accounts. However, the new policy requires students to apply for and, in some cases, receive approval for a new study permit before making the transition.
IRCC stated that these updates aim to "strengthen the integrity of the International Student Program" ensuring compliance and better regulation of Canada’s international education sector.
