New Zealand Introduces SPWV Subcategory To Meet Seasonal Worker Demand

Publish Date: 23/08/2024

The New Zealand government is launching a new subcategory under the Specific Purpose Work Visa (SPWV) to meet the anticipated demand for seasonal workers. Immigration Minister Erica Stanford announced that various sectors will require a substantial influx of workers for crucial seasonal roles.

This move is part of a broader effort to enhance the immigration system, balancing opportunities for incoming workers with protections for local employment.

Additionally, the government has raised the cap for the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme by 1,250 workers, bringing the total to 20,750 for the 2024-25 season. The government also ended the freeze on accommodation cost increases and adjusted wage requirements, mandating a 10% wage premium only for experienced workers.
