The UK government has announced the introduction of electronic travel authorization (ETA) for non-European visitors, a move set to impact millions of travelers annually. Beginning today, eligible visitors from countries like the USA, Canada, and Australia can apply for ETAs, which will be mandatory for travel starting January 8, 2025.
ETAs, costing £10 and valid for two years, aim to streamline travel, enhance border security, and modernize the UK's immigration system. Visitors can apply via the UK ETA app or the government website, with decisions issued quickly.
This step follows the successful rollout of ETAs to Gulf Cooperation Council nationals earlier in 2024 and is part of the UK’s efforts to create a digitized, efficient border system.
