Publish Date: 04/02/2025

The Government of Canada has introduced a major change to the Super Visa program, making it more flexible and potentially more affordable for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Under the new rule, applicants are no longer required to purchase health insurance exclusively from Canadian providers. Instead, they now have the option to buy coverage from approved international insurance companies.

Key Changes to Super Visa Health Insurance

  • Applicants can now purchase health insurance from certain international providers.
  • The insurance policy must be valid for at least one year.
  • Coverage must include healthcare, hospitalization, and repatriation.
  • The minimum coverage amount remains at $100,000.
  • Proof of full or installment payment is required when entering Canada.
