Albanese defends tax cut changes ahead of by-election test for Labour. The amended tax package focused on lower-paid workers was approved by the Senate and is effective from July 1.
The government's stage 3 tax cut overhaul, initially aimed at flattening the tax system, passed the Senate without amendments after clearing the House of Representatives.
The changes retain a tax bracket slated for abolition but adjust rates, halving benefits for wealthier individuals while increasing them for lower-income earners.
Anthony Albanese welcomes an election contest on tax policy and challenges the Coalition to detail its proposals and funding for future tax cuts. The PM is confident the tax message has been well received, especially with the Dunkley by-election approaching.
