NSW Encourages Skilled Professionals for Subclass 491 Visa

Publish Date: 09/02/2024

The NSW government encourages skilled professionals employed in the state to apply directly to Investment NSW for the Subclass 491 visa. The focus is on addressing critical skill shortages in regional areas, targeting sectors such as health, education, ICT, infrastructure, and agriculture.

NSW has been allocated 4,150 skilled visa slots for the 2023-24 fiscal year, with 1,500 places designated for the Subclass 491 visa category.

Two pathways exist for NSW nomination under Subclass 491: Pathway 1 for direct application and Pathway 2 for invitation rounds.

  • Pathway 1 requires applicants to have a proven work history in regional NSW for the past 12 months.
  • Pathway 2 prioritizes expressions of interest in occupations aligned with key industry sectors during invitation rounds.

NSW's allocation under the Migration Program 2023-24 includes slots for Skilled - Nominated (subclass 190), Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491), and Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) visas. Each state and territory evaluates eligible applicants based on specific criteria for their region.

No predetermined dates for invitation rounds; applications will be assessed until allocation is exhausted.
