All About Australia

Thurs, 07th September 2023

Lots of people want to move to Australia for a better life and good jobs. If you're in the IT field and want to work in Australia, you need to prove your skills. This is called an ACS migration skill assessment.

During this assessment, they look at your education and work experience to see if you're qualified. If you don't do this assessment, your application won't go through.

In this guide, we'll explain everything you need to know about the ACS migration skill assessment.

About ACS

The technology sector in Australia is growing fast. There's a group called Australian Computer Science (ACS) that checks the skills of people who move to Australia for IT jobs. Jobs like Software Engineer, Systems Analyst, Network Engineer, and more can go through this ACS process.

If you work in IT, you need to pass the ACS skill assessment to get a skilled work visa. If you don't pass, your application won't move forward.

ACS Skill

During the assessment, ACS looks at your skills and experience to decide if you're good enough to work in Australia as a skilled person. They make sure you meet the right standards.

Eligibility Criteria

The ACS migration rules can be different depending on your work experience, job type, and education. Here are the main things you need to qualify:

Education Requirements

  • To be considered for the ACS skill assessment, you need an education related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
  • You can have a bachelor's or master's degree in ICT. Even a diploma can count.
  • If you did some ICT studies as part of your degree (at least two-thirds), that can count too.

Education Proof

  • Your education can give you points, but your work experience matters more.
  • You have to show proof of your education, like transcripts and certificates.
  • Remember, while education is important, your work experience is a bigger factor for ACS skill assessment

Work Experience Requirements

Having work experience in your field is really important. But it needs to be after you finish studying. If it's before that, it won't count. You have to show proof of your past work.

During the skill assessment, ACS checks if the things you did at your old job are similar to what's listed for your job in ANZSCO. (ANZSCO is like a job guide for Australia and New Zealand.)

The amount of work experience you need depends on your degree or diploma. It decides if you can qualify for the ACS skill assessment.

  • Make an account on the ACS website.
  • Choose the type of skill assessment you need.
