The Government of Alberta has launched a new initiative aimed at attracting skilled immigrants to the province’s trade industry. Under the "Alberta is Calling" program, the province is offering a one-time refundable tax credit of $5,000 to up to 2,000 eligible skilled tradespeople who choose to relocate to Alberta in 2024.

The Alberta government's new program is designed to address ongoing labour shortages in the trades industry, which remains one of the most in-demand sectors in the province. As of now, nine trade occupations have been identified by the government as high-demand roles, including:
Alberta's trade sector has long been a critical part of the province's economy, yet it continues to face significant challenges in filling key roles. With 76,500 job vacancies as of May 2024—third only to Ontario and Quebec—the province is positioning itself as an attractive destination for skilled tradespeople both within and outside of Canada.
