Should you consider applying for Express Entry after reaching 35?

Publish Date: 13/08/2024

For many, turning 35, when wanting to immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry system, feels like a challenge. The system employed for the management and ranking of the applicants who seek a Canada PR Visa is the CRS or the Comprehensive Ranking System. This system considers a given set of values such as age, language proficiency, education level, and experience of the candidates.

Nevertheless, after an applicant reaches the age of 29 years the CRS score starts decreasing because points that are associated with age are subtracted. This reduction in points has led to a common misconception: one might not want to bother trying for Express Entry if one is over 35.

Age and CRS Score: The Facts

The CRS score is a primary determinant of being issued an ITA for Canadian permanent residency by the IRCC. Although age is an element of consideration, it is not the only one. The CRS also includes other things such as language, education, work experience, and a job offer, all of which can make a real difference to a person's COMPS score.

Below outlines the maximum CRS points available for candidates based on their age.
