August 20, 2024— Alberta addresses critical labor shortages in the trade industry by offering financial incentives to attract skilled immigrants. With Canada's national labor force participation rate at its lowest in 20 years, largely due to baby boomer retirements, Alberta's "Alberta is Calling" program is a timely response.
Launched in April 2024, the program offers a one-time refundable tax credit of $5,000 to up to 2,000 eligible tradespeople who move to Alberta between May 1 and December 31, 2024.
To qualify, applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, aged 18 or older, and commit to residing in Alberta for at least 12 consecutive months.
